A&C 2008 koitrip to Japan
Day 1 - Day 2 - Day 3 - Day 4 - Day 5 - Day 6 - Day 7 - Day 8
Finally we are again on a journey to Japan. From 15 March up to 31 March A&C Koi is again on a koitrip to Japan to select a high quality collection of Japanese Koi. On this and the subsequent pages we keep you informed about our trip.
We
left with splendid weather in The Netherlands and we hoped that this weather will accompany us to Japan. In this case I say we, because a number of customers are travelling together with me to Japan. Let me introduce them to you, so that you know who is who in case that they appear in pictures in this report. Thus from the left to right: Theo, Seph and Wim.
The flight to Japan has passed by without problems or delays and after a total travel time, including the trip from home to the airport, we arrived after approximate 24 hours in the hotel. Following a small meal with the appropriate amount of liquids we went the bed and as always after a restless night we started our first visits during this Japan trip.

The first breeder on our list is Yoshinori and I enjoyed meeting him again. I was able to select some beautiful fish from his Tategoi selection, and for those who have read the previous Japan Trip reports the quality of these fish should not be a surprise. Yoshinori is simply a superb breeder and I actually always have success with him. This time however, the negotiations where actually somewhat more difficult to set a priced. At last we succeeded in agreeing on a price to our mutual satisfaction to. Finally it was time to net the pond and to start my selection.
For Wim and Seph this was the first time they were in Japan and therefore the were excited to have a look at the larger fish. Meanwhile, the bowls where prepared and I could slowly begin my selecting. From this selection I have made pictures that are shown below.

Next we continued our trip and travelled to Oomo
where we have selected 15 Jumbo Tosai of approx. 30 cm. De
highlight of the day however were two top quality Doitsu Showa
from Oomo. Alas I was not allowed to select more fish from his
special Tategoi bowl. The negotiations were long and difficult
before we where allowed to select these two fish. It was
seldom so clear to me what top Tategoi means for the breeders.
Have a look and judge by yourself, this two fish are of superb
quality. After my purchase it was clear to me that they need to
stay an additional year in the mud ponds to fully develop their
high potential. Therefore they will stay this summer in Oomo’s
mud ponds. More often as usual in the past I got the message that there are not to many fish available in the Niagata area and that the majority of Tosai was already sold out. This applies, however, only to the standard quality and the quality of the fish in a reasonable mix. For Tategoi however that is just like every other year a complete other situation. |

I hope that again you can enjoy a piece of Japanese craftsmanship which I, hopefully in a reasonably quality, have captured in pictures, more...
